Delhi High Court Denies Urgent Hearing for Karni Sena Protest

The Delhi High Court declined an urgent hearing for a plea filed by the Kshatriya Karni Sena challenging the Delhi Police's refusal to permit a protest at Jantar Mantar on September 20. The organization intends to demonstrate against reservation policies and the University Grants Commission (UGC) Promotion of Equity in Higher Education Institutions Regulations, 2026.

Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyaya stated the matter would be listed in the ordinary course once defects in the petition are cured. This ruling follows a September 7 court order that had directed the Delhi Police to decide on the organization's application by September 14.

The Kshatriya Karni Sena seeks the withdrawal of the UGC regulations, arguing that a Supreme Court order had already placed certain ambiguous provisions in abeyance. The Delhi Police had previously denied a separate protest scheduled for September 6, citing preparations for the BRICS Summit.
