Envision Group Launches Galaxy Campus AI Data Center in China

Envision Group opened the first phase of its Galaxy Campus gigawatt-scale data center in Inner Mongolia to support AI infrastructure using wind power.

Envision Group launched the initial phase of the Galaxy Campus project, a gigawatt-scale data center located in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia. The first 120-megawatt phase is already allocated to two local technology firms, though the company plans to eventually expand the site to 2 gigawatts.

The project utilizes the region's cold climate to lower cooling costs and leverages local wind power resources. Approximately 80% of the facility's power comes from nearby wind farms, and the site employs battery storage for backup power instead of traditional diesel generators. Envision Group provides the power infrastructure and facilities for lease but does not perform data processing itself.

This development supports a broader strategic goal by the company to establish 5 gigawatts of AI data center capacity globally by 2030. The initiative aligns with a growing trend of Chinese firms competing to secure a dominant position in the AI infrastructure sector.
