Delhi Police Block Cockroach Janta Party Protest and Transit
Delhi Police denied a Cockroach Janta Party protest and requested widespread metro and train cancellations to maintain order in New Delhi on October 10.
The Delhi Police denied permission for a protest planned by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar on October 10. The CJP had organized the demonstration to demand accountability and the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations of vote theft.
Joint Commissioner Nupur Prasad rejected the application because it was submitted on October 7, failing the required 10-day notice period. Prasad also cited the party's past failure to follow legal directions and the need to maintain public safety under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.
In anticipation of unrest, the Ministry of Railways cancelled all Mail and Express trains arriving at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin stations between 4:00 AM and 2:00 PM on Saturday. This includes Rajdhani Express services from Howrah and Sealdah. While the ministry cited road traffic congestion, the move coincides with the denied CJP action.
Simultaneously, police requested the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to close entry and exit gates at 57 stations, including Rajiv Chowk and Central Secretariat, starting at 9:00 PM on Friday. Authorities also suggested reducing train frequencies at interchange hubs to prevent unauthorized assemblies near sensitive government zones.
