Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa Meets Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh

President Ahmad al-Sharaa met with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh to coordinate regional security and activate economic cooperation for Syrian reconstruction.

Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa arrived in Riyadh on Wednesday, November 4, for an official visit and meeting with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman at Al-Yamamah Palace. Leading a high-level delegation that included the ministers of defense, finance, industry, and foreign affairs, as well as the head of the General Intelligence Directorate, al-Sharaa sought to bolster bilateral relations and coordinate positions on regional security and counter-terrorism.

The leaders focused on activating economic cooperation and investment opportunities in trade and industry. These discussions build upon a previous visit on October 6, where the two leaders discussed strategic plans for the reconstruction of Syria's damaged infrastructure. Complementing these high-level talks, Syrian Minister Basel Abdul Hannan recently met with Saudi Ambassador Ghazi bin Rafea al-Anzi to discuss a draft memorandum of understanding regarding the development of industrial zones and industrial financing.

Diplomatic efforts also extend to regional security pacts. Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al Shibani indicated that Damascus is currently negotiating to join the Makkah defense agreement, a pact signed in August between Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey.
