INEC Proposes Technology Audit and Mock Presidential Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission is planning a systems audit and mock presidential poll to ensure credibility for the 2027 general election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is considering a comprehensive audit of its electoral technology systems and the organization of a mock presidential election to prepare for the 2027 general elections. INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan announced these proposals during a meeting with British High Commissioner Richard Montgomery in Abuja.

These initiatives seek to resolve reliability concerns following the 2023 general election by testing technology and operational processes before the actual polls. The plan includes enhancing cyber-security architecture through penetration testing and disaster recovery. Although these exercises were not included in the original budget, Amupitan stated the commission will explore implementation methods to increase credibility.

British High Commissioner Richard Montgomery affirmed that the United Kingdom will continue providing technical support for the commission's electoral processes.
