China Condemns Japan's Satellite Jamming and Space Force Plans

The Ministry of National Defense of the People's Republic of China condemned Japan's pursuit of an offensive space policy, citing the development of satellite-jamming technology as a catalyst for the weaponization and militarization of space. During a press conference in Beijing on December 25, 2025, spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang argued that these advancements fuel a dangerous space arms race.

Chinese officials linked these technological developments to broader Japanese military restructuring. The ministry stated that Japan plans to reorganize its Air Self-Defense Force into the Air and Space Self-Defense Force and intends to construct a spacecraft carrier in fiscal year 2026.

Zhang addressed media warnings regarding a potential "Pearl Harbor incident" in space, asserting that Japan's history of sneak attacks makes such concerns unsurprising. He maintained that preserving lasting peace and security in space is essential for the prosperity and security of all nations.
