APC Wins All 210 Seats in Edo Local Elections

The All Progressives Congress won all 18 chairmanship and 192 councillorship positions in the Edo State local government elections.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) achieved a clean sweep of the Edo State local government elections held on Saturday, winning all 18 chairmanship positions and all 192 councillorship seats. The party secured a total of 2,158,600 votes across the state.

Jonathan Aifuobhokhan, Chairman of the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), announced the results in Benin City on Sunday. He stated that the process followed the Edo State Local Government Electoral Law and other applicable regulations. While acknowledging minor operational challenges in a few locations, Aifuobhokhan maintained that these issues did not substantially affect the overall outcome.

Following the presentation of Certificates of Return on Monday, APC State Chairman Emperor Jaret Tenebe characterized the victory as an endorsement of Governor Monday Okpebholo and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's "Renewed Hope Agenda." Tenebe defended the legitimacy of the results against opposition queries and pledged that the party would deliver 2.5 million votes for President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Newly elected officials are scheduled to be sworn into office by September. Aifuobhokhan urged any aggrieved candidates or parties to seek legal redress regarding the results.
