American Jewish Voters Feel Politically Homeless Before Midterms

American Jewish voters report increasing estrangement from both major political parties due to rising antisemitism, though most non-Orthodox voters still favor Democratic candidates.

Many American Jewish voters describe themselves as politically homeless ahead of the 2026 midterms, citing a sense of estrangement from both the Democratic and Republican parties. This sentiment is driven by a perceived rise in antisemitism across the political spectrum, with particular anxiety focused on anti-Zionism and anti-Israel rhetoric within the progressive wing of the Democratic Party.

Despite this emotional disconnect, polling indicates that the majority of Jewish voters continue to support Democrats. A September survey by the Jewish Electorate Institute found 71% of Jewish voters favored Democratic candidates, while a Jewish Voters Resource Center poll reported 67% support. In contrast, a 2025 analysis showed that 72% of Orthodox respondents favored Republicans.

Jared Moscowitz, a Democratic Representative from Florida, noted that this feeling of political homelessness is becoming more prevalent. While some voters express unease over specific candidates, such as Troy Jackson in Maine, others maintain that foundational Jewish values regarding immigrants and human suffering necessitate voting for Democrats regardless of party rhetoric on Israel.
