Boston Scientific Notifies Ireland of Potential Job Cuts in Clonmel

The Irish government received a collective redundancy notification from Boston Scientific on July 22, signaling potential job cuts at the company's operations in Clonmel. The Department of Enterprise confirmed that at least 30 positions are at risk following a board-approved global restructuring plan designed to reduce costs.

Boston Scientific maintains a significant presence in Ireland, employing over 7,000 people across sites in Galway, Clonmel, and Cork. Despite the current restructuring, the company stated it remains committed to its long-term future in the country.

Labour Enterprise Spokesperson George Lawlor responded to the notification by calling for a new industrial policy to secure high-quality foreign direct investment and support indigenous enterprises. Lawlor suggested the layoffs reflect a broader instability in the tech and medical device sectors linked to tariffs imposed by Donald Trump.
