Iran Executes Two Men for Spying for Mossad

The government of Iran executed Omid Behzad and Pouria Safvat on Monday following convictions for spying for the Israeli Mossad intelligence service. The judiciary-linked Mizan News Agency reported that the men transmitted photographs, details, and coordinates of sensitive military and security sites during a conflict involving the United States and Israel that began on February 28.

Authorities alleged that Behzad used map-based applications, including Google Maps, to forward coordinates, while Safvat reportedly sent information to an overseas satellite television network. The executions occurred after the Supreme Court approved the death sentences and rejected requests for clemency.

The human rights organization Hengaw challenged the legality of the convictions, asserting that the proceedings lacked independent legal review and were based on confessions obtained through torture. These executions are part of a broader increase in the use of capital punishment in Iran since the onset of the war.
