Enugu Law Officers Begin Seven-Day Warning Strike Over Pay
The Law Officers Association of Nigeria, Enugu State Chapter, launched a seven-day warning strike on October 2 to demand pay harmonization and unpaid allowances.
The Law Officers Association of Nigeria, Enugu State Chapter, began a seven-day warning strike at midnight on October 2, 2026. The industrial action follows failed negotiations with the state government regarding poor remuneration and welfare packages, including salary cuts implemented in 2020.
Striking officers are demanding the full harmonization of their pay with that of magistrates, the payment of Bar Practising and Annual Bar Conference fees, and the restoration of wardrobe, hazard, and transportation allowances, including all arrears. The association stated the strike is intended to give authorities an opportunity to resolve these demands and prevent further industrial action.
During the strike, law officers are directed to work from home and cease all official duties. This includes abstaining from attending court, visiting police stations or correctional centers, and reporting to government offices, including the Government House, various ministries, and liaison offices in Abuja and Lagos.
