Ontario Gasoline Prices Projected to Rise 14 Cents

Gasoline prices in Ontario are expected to increase by 14 cents per litre over the weekend of October 2-3, 2026.

Dan McTeague of Canadians for Affordable Energy projects that gasoline prices in Ontario will rise by 14 cents per litre over the weekend of October 2-3, 2026. The increase is expected to occur in two stages, with seven cents added on Friday and another seven cents on Saturday.

Peak prices in the Greater Toronto Area are forecast to reach 192.9 cents per litre on Friday morning. Diesel prices are expected to follow a different trajectory, rising by three cents on Friday before decreasing by eight cents on Saturday.

These price hikes are driven by global supply disruptions. Contributing factors include blockades in the Strait of Hormuz amid conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran, as well as Ukrainian strikes on Russian petroleum facilities. Additionally, the Government of China has suspended its oil product exports, further tightening the global market.
