Forrester Predicts Shadow AI Governance Crisis in Asia Pacific
Forrester warns that one in three large Asia Pacific enterprises will struggle with unmanaged shadow AI agents by 2027.
Forrester predicts that one in three large enterprises in the Asia Pacific region will struggle with shadow AI agent governance by 2027. The research firm forecasts a significant gap between official policy and employee behavior, estimating that companies will find at least 10 employee-built agents for every one officially sanctioned agent, resulting in increased technical debt and unmanaged risk.
Other regional forecasts for 2027 include a security incident at a Fortune 500 company triggered by a personal AI agent. Forrester also expects one in five large regulated enterprises to approve Chinese open-weight models to satisfy operational sovereignty requirements.
To differentiate themselves, the research firm anticipates ten of the region's largest consumer-facing brands will prioritize human assurance and oversight for high-consequence interactions in financial services and healthcare. Frederic Giron noted that the primary challenge for organizations will be establishing governance protocols across a region with diverse markets and varying levels of AI readiness.
