Omar Abdullah Meets US Ambassador to Expand Regional Engagement
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met US Ambassador Sergio Gor to discuss widening bilateral ties while refusing to raise internal grievances with Washington.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met with United States Ambassador to India Sergio Gor in Srinagar on Wednesday to discuss expanding engagement between the U.S. and Jammu and Kashmir. Abdullah expressed optimism that relations between the region and the United States will widen and deepen in the coming years, focusing on specific contributions the U.S. can make to the area.
During the discussions, Abdullah explicitly declined to raise internal grievances or seek solutions for regional problems from the United States. He asserted that the resolution to the issues facing the Union Territory lies with the central government of India rather than Washington, characterizing the act of complaining about his own country to a foreign representative as inappropriate.
The meeting also touched upon broader India-U.S. relations and the eventual resolution of certain legacy issues. Abdullah noted that further progress on this engagement will require ongoing coordination between Ambassador Gor and Washington, as well as between the Chief Minister and the Government of India in New Delhi.
