Polpharma Group Acquires Romania's Biofarm for EUR 260 Million
Polpharma Group completed the acquisition of Romanian pharmaceutical manufacturer Biofarm to expand its operations across Central and Eastern Europe.
The Polish pharmaceutical company Polpharma Group completed the acquisition of Biofarm, a leading Romanian drug manufacturer, on July 21, 2026. The transaction, valued at approximately RON 1.36 billion (roughly EUR 260 million), followed a public buyout offer and commitments to sell from majority shareholders Longshield Investment Group and Lion Capital.
Biofarm has operated since 1921 and maintains two manufacturing facilities with a portfolio of over 200 products. Polpharma intends to integrate the company while preserving its local identity and business structure. The strategic goal is to establish an integrated European pharmaceutical platform, leveraging Biofarm's capabilities to introduce its products to international markets and improve patient access to medicines in Romania.
As part of the transition, Polpharma CEO Sebastian Szymanek and Regional General Manager Tamás Uri will join Biofarm's Board of Directors, replacing Bogdan Dragoi and Stefan Dumitru. The move is described by leadership as a commitment to building a multiregional organization and a natural next step in Biofarm's development to accelerate investment in innovation.
