Philadelphia City Council Calls for Starbucks Boycott
Philadelphia City Council passed a resolution calling for a boycott of Starbucks until the company reaches a contract with unionized baristas.
The Philadelphia City Council passed a resolution on October 1, 2026, calling for a boycott of Starbucks until the company reaches a contract with its unionized baristas. This action makes Philadelphia the first city in the United States to officially back the boycott efforts led by Starbucks Workers United.
Starbucks Workers United, which represents more than 12,000 baristas nationwide, described Starbucks as a "law-breaking corporation." The union stated that "it is no longer possible to be both a Starbucks customer and support workers."
Starbucks has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the resolution.
