Russia Deploys Volna Kupol Garant to Jam Starlink
Russia is deploying Volna Kupol Garant jamming systems to disrupt Ukrainian use of SpaceX Starlink and Starshield satellite services across Crimea and front lines.
The Federal Government of Russia is deploying trailer-mounted Volna Kupol Garant jamming systems to disrupt Ukraine's reliance on SpaceX Starlink and Starshield satellite services. These electronic warfare systems beam radio interference at low-Earth-orbit satellites, providing point defense over approximately 25 square kilometers.
Serhii Beskrestnov, a Ukrainian presidential advisor on drones, reports that Russian forces are hiding the jammers in truck parking lots or attaching them to passenger cars to avoid detection. Ukrainian forces have been advised to watch for concealment methods such as greenhouses and polycarbonate panels used to mask the equipment.
While Russia first utilized the system in Kharkiv in 2024, deployment has since expanded. Beskrestnov noted that Russia has covered nearly all important sites in Crimea with this technology and is increasingly deploying it along the front lines to counter deep-reconnaissance and strike missions. The Russian state media outlet TASS reported in August that serial production of the Volna Kupol Garant is currently underway.
