European Commission Disburses 1.5 Billion Loan to Egypt

The European Commission disbursed 1.5 billion to Egypt on July 24, 2026. This payment represents the second of three planned instalments under a 4 billion macro-financial assistance programme designed to preserve macroeconomic stability and facilitate economic reform efforts.

To secure the funds, Egypt fulfilled several prerequisites, including the execution of economic reforms, progress toward democratic changes, and the continuation of its existing programme with the International Monetary Fund. This funding is a central element of the EU-Egypt Strategic Comprehensive Partnership created in March 2024.

Including an additional 1 billion in short-term support disbursed in late 2024, the total financial assistance provided to Egypt under this framework has reached 5 billion.
