Israeli Military Kills Hezbollah Fighters as 401st Brigade Exits Lebanon

The Israeli military killed several Hezbollah fighters during an overnight operation on Saturday at the Ali al-Taher ridge, a strategic hilltop in southern Lebanon. The clash occurred within an Israeli-occupied security zone approximately six miles from the border, leaving one Israeli soldier moderately injured. This incident marks the first time Israel has announced fighter deaths since July 15 and challenges a fragile U.S.-brokered framework agreement signed in late June.

Concurrent with these clashes, the Israel Defense Forces 401st "Iron Tracks" Armored Brigade completed an eight-month mission in southern Lebanon. Operating under the 91st "Galilee" Division, the brigade destroyed more than 1,200 Hezbollah sites, seized over 600 weapons, and killed more than 60 terrorists. These operations followed Hezbollah's resumption of rocket and drone attacks on March 2, 2026.

Political efforts to stabilize the region include a framework of understandings reached via talks at the U.S. State Department, contingent upon Hezbollah's removal from southern Lebanon. While Lebanese President Joseph Aoun moved to outlaw Hezbollah and pledge an end to hostilities, Hezbollah has rejected the deal, refusing to disarm without a full Israeli withdrawal. Separately, the Lebanese Armed Forces attributed a blast in Kafra that injured five soldiers to a suspicious object rather than an Israeli strike.
