Babachir Lawal Joins NDC to Support Obi-Kwankwaso Ticket

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) on September 22, 2026. During a meeting at the Abuja residence of NDC National Leader Senator Seriake Dickson, Lawal declared his support for the party's 2027 presidential ticket featuring Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Lawal cited national insecurity, hunger, ignorance, and disease as the primary drivers for his return to politics. His defection follows a resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) three months earlier, where he alleged that presidential primaries were manipulated and results altered to favor Atiku Abubakar.

Senator Seriake Dickson welcomed Lawal as a seasoned political mobilizer and appointed him to a leadership role overseeing NDC activities and campaigns in the North-East and North-Central zones. The move comes as the NDC establishes its official Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections.
