Sonos Adds Live Activities and Dynamic Island to iOS App

Sonos updated its iOS app to support Live Activities and Dynamic Island, restoring playback controls to the iPhone lock screen.

Sonos Inc. released an update to its iOS mobile app introducing support for Apple's Live Activities and the Dynamic Island. The update restores playback controls to the iPhone lock screen, allowing users to access volume and transport controls, content titles, and the specific room or group where audio is playing without opening the app.

To make playback changes from the lock screen, users must first authenticate their device via Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode. The Live Activity remains visible for 15 minutes after playback stops. While the feature extends to Apple Watch and CarPlay, playback controls are not yet functional on those platforms. Album art is currently unsupported, though the company is investigating new capabilities within the upcoming iOS 27 beta.

Following a controversial app redesign in 2024, the company set Live Activities to be disabled by default. Users must manually enable the feature in both the iOS settings and the Sonos app preferences under Account > App Preferences > Live Activity.
