Taiwan Investigates 17 Chinese Firms for Illegal Talent Poaching

The Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau of Taiwan conducted a wide-scale investigation into 17 Chinese technology companies suspected of illegally recruiting high-tech talent between July 13 and August 4, 2026. Working with prosecutors across six jurisdictions, authorities searched 64 locations and questioned 114 individuals.

Investigators allege that these companies—including Goke Microelectronics, Shenzhen Torey Microelectronics Technology, Zhuhai CosMX Battery, and Aosheng Hi-Tech—used staffing agencies or disguised themselves as Taiwanese or foreign-funded firms to poach specialists. The recruitment efforts specifically targeted the semiconductor and integrated circuit design sectors.

This operation is part of a broader strategy initiated in 2020 to safeguard Taiwan's competitive advantage in chip-manufacturing and artificial intelligence. The government aims to prevent unauthorized Chinese business operations from eroding the island's leadership in these critical industries.
