Wessex Water Rules Out Immediate Hosepipe Ban

Wessex Water announced that a hosepipe ban is unlikely in its service region, including Somerset, despite an exceptionally hot summer. The utility attributed this resilience to a wet winter and a reliance on underground aquifers rather than surface reservoirs, stating that resources remain in a stable position.

Serving 1.3 million customers across Somerset, Dorset, Bristol, and parts of Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, and Hampshire, the company has invested in a water supply grid with over 200km of trunk mains to transfer water from surplus areas to those in need.

Despite the lack of a ban, the company urged customers to avoid wasting water. It noted that high demand during peak periods can limit network flow and negatively affect water pressure in homes.
