Amazon Delivery Drone Drops Package Into Texas Swimming Pool

An Amazon Prime Air drone delivered a package into a customer's swimming pool in Richmond, Texas, as the company prepares to expand its drone service.

Amazon.com Inc. operated a Prime Air delivery drone that dropped a package containing dry cat food and shoe insoles into a customer's backyard swimming pool in Richmond, Texas, on Monday. The customer, Lindsey Austen, captured the incident on video and shared it on X, noting that she had not intentionally selected the drone delivery option for the order.

Although the items inside the package remained undamaged, Austen stated the loud noise of the drone would discourage her from using the service in the future. An Amazon spokesperson described such incidents as "extremely rare" and said the company uses these occurrences to improve the delivery experience and prevent future errors.

The incident occurs as the company plans to expand its autonomous drone delivery service to nearly 500 additional cities and towns by the end of 2026.
