WestJet Flight Attendants May Strike Starting July 31

Approximately 4,400 flight attendants at WestJet Inc. may begin a strike as early as Sunday, July 31, 2026. This follows a mid-July vote where 99 percent of the cabin crew supported a strike mandate. The dispute centers on wage rates and compensation for ground work, which the union describes as unpaid work.

To prepare for potential disruptions, WestJet Inc. is offering passengers traveling between July 30 and August 4 the option to cancel or make a one-time flight change without a fee. Regional WestJet Encore and Delta Air Lines code-share flights are not affected by the potential labor action.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees has intensified its efforts through a public relations campaign and a day of action on July 14 that included rallies. CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech stated the company is committed to a sustainable agreement that recognizes the professionalism of the crew while keeping the airline competitive.
