Samsung Foldable Sales Rise as Apple Launches iPhone Duo
Samsung reported a 45% sales increase for its Galaxy Z Fold 8 series in Europe following the launch of Apple's first foldable phone.
Samsung reported a 45% increase in European sales for its Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra devices during the nine weeks following their August 7 launch. This growth occurred despite a broader market trend where global smartphone sales reached a 14-year low.
The company noted a 260% surge in Google search interest for its foldable devices between September 6 and 12. This spike coincided with Apple's unveiling of the iPhone Duo, which officially reached stores on October 23 with a price tag of $1,999.
While Samsung's official announcement did not mention its competitor, a Samsung UK executive stated that demand for the Fold 8 family grew by 16% specifically after the iPhone Duo announcement. Analysts suggest that Apple's entry into the foldable market is introducing the technology to a wider audience, some of whom are choosing Samsung's lower-priced alternatives.
