Astrotech Subsidiary Plans Commercial Lunar Electric Utility

Astrotech Corporation announced plans through its subsidiary, Lunar Power and Light Corporation, to develop a commercial electric utility on the moon. The proposed network aims to provide continuous day-and-night electricity to government and commercial customers at a high-illumination lunar polar location.

The utility would utilize a combination of sun-tracking solar towers, utility-scale battery storage, and a shared distribution grid. Potential users of the infrastructure include autonomous robotics, data centers, and lunar mining operations.

Lunar Power and Light Corporation is currently in an early evaluation phase. As part of this process, the company is considering a proposal for the Lunar Enabling Infrastructure Accelerator under the NextSTEP-3 program, a NASA initiative designed to mature lunar surface power technology. The project remains subject to financing, governmental authorizations, and technical validation.
