Finland Unemployment Rate Rises to 10.5 Percent in September

Finland's unemployment rate increased to 10.5 percent in September as stagnant recruitment and cautious consumer spending hinder the labor market recovery.

Finland's unemployment rate rose to 10.5 percent in September, an increase from 10.1 percent in August. According to data from Statistics Finland, nearly 300,000 people aged 15 to 74 are currently seeking work. This represents an increase of approximately 39,000 unemployed individuals compared to the same period last year, with men experiencing a particularly sharp decline of 59,000 jobs.

Long-term unemployment also climbed by 9 percent, leaving 143,000 people registered as unemployed for at least one year. While the national economy is in the early stages of recovery, economists indicate that these improvements may take up to a year to impact the labor market.

Petri Malinen of the Finnish Federation of Entrepreneurs attributed the lack of recruitment to geopolitical uncertainties and cautious consumer spending. He noted that as long as economic growth does not materialize concretely, consumers will remain cautious and demand for company growth will remain modest.
