Gold Prices Hold Above $4,000 Amid Strong Central Bank Demand

Gold remains above $4,000 an ounce despite a strong dollar and rising bond yields, supported by heavy buying from central banks in China and Poland.

Gold continues to trade above $4,000 an ounce despite facing near-term pressure from a stronger dollar and rising long-dated bond yields. These economic conditions typically reduce the appeal of nonyielding assets, yet the metal has maintained its value.

Amy Gower attributes this resilience to robust physical demand, particularly from central banks in China and Poland. In China, gold imports have exceeded the reserve additions of the People's Bank of China by more than ten times. Additionally, gold ETF holdings increased throughout September, a trend Gower describes as unusual during a Federal Reserve hiking cycle.

Long-term support for gold is driven by investor concerns over government debt, fiscal sustainability, and currency debasement.
