The Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry reported that Singapore's economy grew by 5.4 percent in the third quarter of 2026. While this figure represents a deceleration from the 6.2 percent growth recorded in the second quarter, it exceeded economist expectations of 5 percent.
The construction sector led growth with an 8.8 percent increase, followed by the manufacturing sector at 7.5 percent. Manufacturing growth was driven by precision engineering and electronics, which offset declines in biomedical and chemicals clusters. Manufacturing expansion slowed significantly from the 12.9 percent growth seen in the second quarter.
The Monetary Authority of Singapore held its monetary policy steady following tightening measures implemented in April and July to combat inflation. The government maintained its annual growth forecast for 2026 between 4.5 percent and 5.5 percent, citing the influence of exports and AI-related sectors.
