Fayette County Fails to Mail 300 Requested Ballots

Fayette County officials are notifying 300 voters who did not receive mail-in ballots due to a human error involving ballot label files.

The Fayette County Board of Elections is contacting approximately 300 voters after a mailing error prevented requested mail-in ballots from being sent. The failure occurred in October due to issues with automatically generated ballot label files. While the county initially linked the problem to the state's SURE voter registration system, the Pennsylvania Department of State clarified that the failure was caused by human error within the county office.

Election Director Marybeth Kuznik stated that the affected voters appear to be random, with no specific party or geographical area targeted. State records show that 7,811 of the 9,483 requested mail-in ballots had been returned as of Friday morning. The county and the state Department of State are currently reviewing the matter to determine exactly what happened.

Impacted voters can obtain replacement ballots at the election bureau in Uniontown on Monday or Tuesday. Alternatively, they may cast provisional ballots at their polling locations on Election Day, November 3. Special arrangements are available for voters with disabilities to ensure they can access replacement ballots.
