Australia and New Zealand Armies Renew Plan ANZAC Agreement
Australian and New Zealand Army chiefs signed the renewed Plan ANZAC in Canberra to enhance military interoperability and regional security in the South Pacific.
The Australian and New Zealand Armies signed the renewed Plan ANZAC on July 9, 2026, at the Australian Army Headquarters in Canberra. The bilateral agreement seeks to enhance interoperability by aligning capability, training, and readiness, allowing both nations to train, deploy, and operate together more effectively.
Lieutenant General Susan Coyle signed the agreement as her first official engagement following her appointment as Chief of the Australian Army. She was joined by Chief of the New Zealand Army Rose King. The partnership focuses on regional security, stability, and resilience in the South Pacific.
The renewed plan aligns with the Anzac 2035: Operationalising the Australia-New Zealand Alliance statement signed by both governments earlier this year. The agreement emphasizes a mutual commitment to coordinate efforts in the South Pacific and provide humanitarian assistance when necessary.
