Comsol Launches Wholesale 5G-Advanced Home Broadband Network

Comsol is deploying a standalone 5G-Advanced network across South Africa to provide wholesale home broadband infrastructure for internet service providers and mobile virtual network operators.

Fixed wireless connectivity operator Comsol is entering the home broadband market as a wholesale provider of 5G-Advanced fixed wireless access infrastructure. The company is deploying a standalone network that allows internet service providers and mobile virtual network operators to offer branded home connectivity without competing directly with Comsol.

Comsol has already covered over one million households in Gauteng and aims for full coverage of the province by March 2027. The company plans to deploy approximately 2,000 base stations nationwide, with further expansion into the Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, and other regional centers scheduled for 2027 and 2028.

This strategic rollout is supported by new shareholders Platform Investment Partners and Wimsey Capital, alongside additional growth capital from Convergence Partners, Solcon Capital, and CEO Iain Stevenson. The funding solution was arranged by RMB and follows the exit of Nedbank Private Equity after a nine-year investment. The expansion leverages a C-band spectrum license granted to the company in 2022 by the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa.
