Republican Harriet Hageman Projected to Win Wyoming Senate Race
Republican Harriet Hageman is projected to win the Wyoming Senate race as voters decide on a gubernatorial contest and a major property tax cut.
Republican Harriet Hageman is projected to win the U.S. Senate race in Wyoming, according to the Associated Press. The projection follows an election day on November 3 and 4 characterized by high voter turnout in regions such as Natrona County.
Statewide, voters cast ballots for governor in a race featuring Republican nominee Eric Barlow, Democrat Ken Casner, and Constitution Party candidate Rebecca Bextel. The U.S. House race pitted Republican Secretary of State Chuck Gray against Democrat Lisa Kinney, Libertarian Shawn Johnson, and Constitution Party candidate Jeff Haggit. In Laramie County, Clerk Debra Lee reported a 22% increase in early in-person voting compared to the 2022 midterms, with over 37% of registered voters casting ballots before election day.
Beyond the candidate races, voters decided on Proposition 1, a citizens initiative proposing a homeowner's property tax exemption for 50% of a primary residence's assessed value. Supporters viewed the measure as essential relief from rising costs, while opponents warned it could cause an annual revenue loss of $125 million, potentially impacting schools and public safety or necessitating a state income tax.
To facilitate voting, Albany and Laramie counties utilized a vote center model, allowing residents to cast ballots at any available center. Per state law, all participants were required to present valid identification, such as a state driver's license or U.S. passport.
