Deendayal Port Authority Launches Green Hydrogen Hub Initiatives

The Deendayal Port Authority is implementing pilot projects and hosting global experts to transition Kandla into a sustainable green hydrogen hub.

The Deendayal Port Authority is executing an aggressive strategy to scale green energy and energy transition solutions after the Government of India designated the port as a Green Hydrogen Hub. This initiative aligns with the Sapth Dharah framework to position India's maritime sector as a global leader in the blue and green economy.

Chairman Sushil Kumar Singh announced that the port is serving as a test bed for small pilot projects designed to demonstrate technology and attract commercial investment. These projects, funded by internal revenues, include partnerships with Larsen & Toubro, Thermax, and various mobility startups to establish ecosystems for green hydrogen and ammonia.

To further these goals, the authority hosted the Kandla Green Hydrogen Conclave 2026 in Gandhidham, Gujarat. The event featured a virtual message from Union Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and included a delegation visit to India's first Make-in-India 1-MW Green Hydrogen Plant. During the conclave, Singh urged the maritime sector to adopt zero-emission fuels, stating that energy efficiency alone "cannot translate into a zero-emission kind of output" and that the adoption of greener fuels is essential to meet Paris Agreement temperature targets.
