Imole Campaign Council Alleges Plot to Arrest 46 Opposition Leaders

The Imole Campaign Council alleges a plot to arrest 46 Accord Party leaders and opposition figures to disrupt the upcoming Osun State governorship election.

The Imole Campaign Council, representing Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, alleges a coordinated plot to arrest 46 Accord Party leaders and opposition figures before the August 15 governorship election. Deputy Director-General Kolapo Alimi claims the council obtained a hit list of individuals, including Energy Commissioner Ademola Adeyemo, who are allegedly marked for arrest on trumped-up charges and forcible transfer to Abuja to remove them from circulation.

The council specifically condemned the arrest of Taofeek Akinyemi in Ikire, asserting the action was politically motivated after Akinyemi reported a shooting incident. The organization called upon Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun to intervene and stop what it describes as arbitrary arrests intended to dismantle democracy using public security forces.

The Osun State Police Command dismissed these allegations. Public Relations Officer Abiodun Ojelabi stated that the police do not formulate such lists and explained that current operations are limited to raiding criminal hideouts to sanitize the environment for the upcoming election.
