Democratic Women Seek Record Gains in Midterm Elections

Democratic women are pursuing record-breaking numbers of gubernatorial and U.S. House seats in the upcoming November midterm elections.

Democratic women are pursuing historic gains in the November midterm elections, with a record 19 gubernatorial nominees on the ballot. The Democratic Governors Association has invested millions into these races, including a recent $5 million contribution to the campaign of Keisha Lance Bottoms in Georgia. Other candidates positioned to break barriers include Gina Hinojosa in Texas and Deb Haaland in New Mexico.

In the U.S. House of Representatives, 198 Democratic women are running for office. The political action committee Elect Democratic Women is pushing to reach a milestone of over 100 seats. This surge contrasts with Republican women, who have only 73 candidates on the general election ballot.

Support for these candidates is led by figures such as Governor of Massachusetts Maura Healey and U.S. Representative Lois Frankel. While Democratic women seek to expand their influence, some races remain highly contentious, such as the gubernatorial contest in Ohio between Amy Acton and Vivek Ramaswamy.
