Mumbai Ranks 15th Globally in Data Centre Capacity

Mumbai has entered the world's top 15 data centre markets by operational capacity, ranking 15th globally with 774 MW of live IT capacity. According to a report by Knight Frank, the city also ranks 11th globally in its development pipeline, which totals nearly 5 GW.

Growth is driven by Mumbai's role as India's primary international gateway for subsea cable landings and its proximity to a large financial services ecosystem. Other Indian cities, including Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bengaluru, are also expanding their capacities.

Knight Frank notes that Mumbai's ability to reach the global top 10 depends on improving infrastructure readiness. Required advancements include faster power provisioning, transmission upgrades, streamlined regulatory approvals, and the creation of campus-scale facilities designed to support artificial intelligence workloads.
