Lord Bamford Appoints Son George as JCB Co-Chairman
Lord Bamford appointed his youngest son George as co-chairman of JCB, ending a succession dispute and passing over his elder son Jo.
Lord Bamford, the billionaire head of JCB, has appointed his youngest son, George Bamford, as co-chairman of the digger manufacturer. George, who previously served as deputy chairman, will officially assume the role at the start of October. The decision concludes a long-running succession dispute and ends speculation regarding the company's leadership, as Lord Bamford passed over his elder son, Jo Bamford, who was previously considered the front runner.
Lord Bamford described the appointment as part of a "next chapter" for the firm. The company is currently investing in its Staffordshire headquarters and a new £750 million manufacturing plant in San Antonio, Texas. The Texas facility is the largest in JCB's global network.
Financially, JCB reported a dip in pre-tax profit to £642 million, down from £687.3 million the previous year, with machine sales falling 5.2 percent. Despite the decline, Chief Executive Graeme Macdonald expects moderate growth following the opening of the Texas plant.
