Hezbollah Uses Iranian Funds to Rebuild Military Infrastructure

Hezbollah is utilizing tens of millions of dollars from Iran to replenish weapons and restore command structures amid ongoing tensions with Israel.

The Lebanese armed group Hezbollah has spent three months rebuilding military infrastructure and replenishing weapons stockpiles following severe losses in two wars since 2024. Utilizing a period of relative calm, the group is focusing on procuring explosives and producing attack drones to target Israeli positions. These efforts are supported by tens of millions of dollars from Iran for military capabilities, alongside approximately $200 million intended for displaced families in Shiite heartlands.

A primary objective of the buildup is the restoration of command-and-control structures that failed during previous battles in Bint Jbeil and the Ali al-Taher ridge. While Hezbollah has denied a total collapse of its chain of command, it recently admitted ownership of a seized shipment of explosives intended for its drone program. The group maintains that resistance to the current Israeli occupation of southern Lebanese villages is a legitimate right, though it remains cautious about triggering a broader regional conflict.

In response, the United States is maintaining economic pressure to block these funding channels. The United States Department of the Treasury has vowed to continue strangling Hezbollah's finances through sanctions, asserting that Iran is struggling to find alternative methods to transfer money. Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces have increased the deployment of unmanned systems in southern Lebanon to protect troops from potential attacks.
