Google to Replace ChromeOS with Gemini-Integrated Googlebook OS

Google will phase out ChromeOS updates by mid-2034 and transition to Googlebook OS, a new system fusing Android and ChromeOS with integrated Gemini AI.

Google will phase out updates for ChromeOS in mid-2034 as it transitions to a new operating system called Googlebook OS. The new system fuses Android and ChromeOS to create a more powerful environment featuring integrated Gemini AI and direct access to phone content.

New Googlebooks hardware launches on October 4, featuring touch screens, at least 16GB of RAM, and either Snapdragon X Elite or Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors. While the company will continue selling lower-tier Chromebooks, it confirmed in a support document for education and enterprise IT administrators that many of its newest Chromebook devices will be eligible to migrate to the new OS.

Management capabilities for businesses and schools using Googlebook OS are expected to arrive in the second half of 2027. Despite the shift toward Android app integration, the company stated it will continue to support web apps for IT admins and provide a robust set of APIs for web developers.
