Houthi Missile Strikes Prompt Saudi-Israel Intelligence Talks

Houthi forces killed 16 people in missile attacks on Saudi Arabia, prompting reports of intelligence sharing between Riyadh and Israel via U.S. channels.

Houthi forces launched a series of missile and drone attacks against Saudi Arabia between October 8 and 13, 2026, resulting in at least 16 deaths and hundreds of injuries. The strikes targeted Saudi Aramco headquarters in Dhahran and King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. Investigators believe the Houthis launched weapons in sequences to overwhelm radar and command networks, causing Saudi defenses to struggle despite the use of American Patriot and THAAD systems.

In response to the security breach, the Government of Saudi Arabia has reportedly discussed sharing intelligence with Israel through United States Central Command channels. While Saudi Arabia has not normalized diplomatic relations with Israel, the two nations are exploring pragmatic coordination to counter Iranian-backed threats. This follows a precedent set by the United Arab Emirates, which has already deployed Israeli Iron Dome and Barak air defense systems.

Formal weapons purchases of Israeli systems, such as the Iron Beam laser or Arrow 3, remain unlikely in the short term. Political hurdles, specifically Saudi demands for a Palestinian state, and logistical challenges continue to block a formal defense agreement. Intelligence coordination is expected to remain limited, with Riyadh continuing to rely primarily on its own security mechanisms and broader regional frameworks.
