Chuck Grassley Alleges Jack Smith Collected Data on 639,000 Republicans
Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley accused former special counsel Jack Smith of conducting a fishing expedition by collecting invasive data on hundreds of thousands of Republican voters.
Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley released a memo alleging that former special counsel Jack Smith and the Biden Justice Department collected invasive data on at least 639,000 Republican voters and donors. Based on whistleblower disclosures, the collected information includes names, home addresses, employer details, and credit card information. Some reports indicate the trove includes shipping addresses for individuals who purchased MAGA hats as far back as 2005.
Grassley characterized the data collection as a "fishing expedition" designed to map the Republican Party apparatus. He further alleged that the Justice Department obtained nearly 4,800 donor checks containing bank routing numbers.
During a September 29 committee hearing, Jack Smith defended the actions, stating he had a "duty to collect facts" for a criminal investigation and confirming his team acquired financial information. Smith is currently facing a lawsuit from Senator Marsha Blackburn and a bar complaint from Senator Bill Hagerty regarding the seizure of lawmakers' phone records.
