Alaska Airlines Joins American Airlines International Joint Businesses

Alaska Airlines and American Airlines announced an agreement for Alaska Airlines to join American's Atlantic and Pacific Joint Businesses. The expansion is designed to deepen Alaska's commercial ties with several international carriers, including British Airways, Iberia, Finnair, Aer Lingus, LEVEL, and Japan Airlines.

This move supports a broader strategy to transition Alaska Airlines from a regional West Coast carrier into a global airline. This transformation follows the company's combination with Hawaiian Airlines and the acquisition of Boeing 787 aircraft. If approved, the arrangement will enable closer commercial coordination on flight routes connecting North America with Europe and Asia.

Japan Airlines described the expansion as a method to create more travel options between Asia and North America, while Aeroflot stated that Alaska's participation would strengthen North Atlantic connectivity. The airlines intend to apply for antitrust immunity and seek formal approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation and other international regulators in the coming months.
