Meta Updates WhatsApp with iPad Support and Car Integration
Meta announced WhatsApp updates including primary device support for iPads, enhanced in-car controls for CarPlay and Android Auto, and Adobe Acrobat PDF integration.
Meta announced a series of updates for WhatsApp on July 22, 2026, designed to decrease user dependence on smartphones. The most significant change introduces primary device support for iPads, allowing users to register and configure accounts directly on the tablet using a phone number for verification without needing a linked smartphone.
To improve the driving experience, the company overhauled WhatsApp for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The new in-car interface features hands-free playback, voice-dictated replies, visible call history, and one-tap access to favorite contacts through the vehicle's infotainment screen.
Productivity and media sharing also received upgrades. WhatsApp now integrates with Adobe Acrobat, enabling users to view and annotate PDFs within the Windows desktop and WhatsApp Web applications. Additionally, the platform now allows users to share songs from Spotify and Apple Music directly to WhatsApp Status. These features are being deployed gradually via server-side updates.
