AI Toilet Tech Emerges to Track Health Trends

The health-tracking sector is expanding into a new category of AI-powered devices designed to analyze stool and urine for wellness trends. Startups like Throne Science and Vivoo, as well as established brands such as TOTO and Kohler, are integrating optical sensors and computer vision into toilets to track hydration, stool consistency, and the presence of blood.

Throne Science recently raised $10 million in Series A funding for its analysis camera. While the company intends to eventually seek FDA clearance to create diagnostic smoke detectors for colon cancer, current industry leaders emphasize the tools are for wellness monitoring. TOTO, which launched its Stool Scan in Japan, plans to bring the model to the United States in early 2027.

Gastroenterologists believe these devices can provide objective patient diaries, though experts caution that the technology cannot yet reliably distinguish between benign variations and serious conditions like colorectal cancer. Industry analysts predict that these integrated health interfaces will reach mass adoption within six to ten years.
