Indian Navy Chief Visits Mauritius to Strengthen Maritime Ties

Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan conducted a four-day official visit to Mauritius from August 10 to August 13, 2026, to deepen bilateral defense ties and maritime security cooperation. The engagement aligns with India's MAHASAGAR vision, which promotes security and growth across the Indian Ocean Region.

During the visit, Admiral Swaminathan met with Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam to discuss enhancing information sharing, training exchanges, and capacity building for the Mauritius Police Force and the National Coast Guard of Mauritius. He also held talks with Secretary for Home and Defence Affairs Kan Oye Fong Weng-Poorun and Police Commissioner Rampersad Sooroojebally, alongside India's High Commissioner to Mauritius, Anurag Srivastava.

Discussions focused on expanding operational linkages and joint Exclusive Economic Zone surveillance. The partnership already includes hydrographic surveys and Mauritian participation in Indian Navy initiatives such as the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium and MILAN. The visit aimed to solidify these existing collaborations to ensure regional stability.
