Xiaomi Launches SkyNomad Sub-Brand of Extended-Range Electric SUVs
Xiaomi introduced the SkyNomad sub-brand and N90 full-size SUV to diversify its automotive portfolio with extended-range electric vehicles targeting families and outdoor enthusiasts.
Xiaomi launched SkyNomad, an automotive sub-brand known as Xiaomi Pengcheng in China, on July 8, 2026. The brand focuses on extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs) that combine an electric drivetrain with a gasoline-powered generator to mitigate range anxiety. This expansion follows regulatory approval from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in June 2026 and aims to diversify the company's revenue streams amid slowing growth in the smartphone and home appliance markets.
The debut model, the N90 (internally codenamed Kunlun N3), is a full-size SUV measuring 5.3 meters in length with a 3.1-meter wheelbase. Available in five- and seven-seat configurations, the N90 features a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine acting as a generator and a battery exceeding 70 kWh. These specifications provide an electric-only range of 400-500 km and a combined hybrid range exceeding 1,500 km.
CEO Lei Jun described the series as "smart, versatile, spacious" vehicles intended to serve as a "second home," contrasting them with the driver-focused SU7 and YU7 lines. Xiaomi expects to launch the N90 in the second half of 2026, potentially in the third quarter, paired with outdoor-focused ecosystem products. While the launch is centered in China to compete with rivals like Li Auto and Xpeng, Xiaomi plans to enter the European market next year.
