El-Sisi and Al-Burhan Discuss Political Solution for Sudan Crisis
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Sudanese Chairman Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan to discuss ending the civil war and alleviating humanitarian suffering in Sudan.
Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of Egypt, met with Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, Chairman of Sudan's Transitional Sovereign Council, on Sunday during the 8th Mid-Year Coordination Meeting of the African Union in New Alamein, Egypt.
President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to advancing a political solution to the Sudan crisis to end the war and alleviate humanitarian suffering. He emphasized Egypt's support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Sudan, as well as the cohesion of its national institutions.
Chairman Al-Burhan expressed appreciation for Egypt's political and humanitarian assistance, specifically noting the role Egypt has played in hosting Sudanese citizens displaced by the conflict. The meeting took place amid a deadly war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces that began in April 2023, resulting in thousands of deaths and millions of displacements.
