AstraZeneca Invests $2 Billion in Summit Therapeutics Partnership
AstraZeneca invested $2 billion in Summit Therapeutics to collaborate on clinical trials for gastrointestinal cancer compounds.
AstraZeneca invested $2 billion in convertible preferred shares of Summit Therapeutics to facilitate a collaboration on gastrointestinal cancer treatments. The investment triggered a more than 17% increase in Summit Therapeutics shares.
The two companies will combine their novel cancer compounds in clinical trials. Under the terms of the agreement, both parties will share the costs of these trials without exclusivity. Each company retains the development and commercial rights to its own molecules.
The partnership excludes any future sharing of revenue or milestones, maintaining a strict separation of financial gains from the individual molecules despite the shared research costs.
